As any prominent awards ceremony approaches, one notices an outcry for the addition fresh award types to honor unsung work and fill the passions of enthusiasts with niche passions.
My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are board games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal stands as crucial and important of all. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Classifying creative works is not a science; it remains highly personal, and typically start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. But it is an essential concession in the world of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.
To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.
Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, making space possible accommodating various experiences.
Different situation exists for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears to put them. Consider three of this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.
There are dozens excellent brain-teasers launched regularly that have no home during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.
Frequently they represent modest productions, but the art in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games rank among the most-played games globally continuing this trend for an extended period.
The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles for the title of most purchased experience; it also contends as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.
Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. One could readily select multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.
To emphasize again, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators operate at the demanding boundary of video game design, developing some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Comparable to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait generations.
